Recently the Burlington Help Desk held a #techteamMA chat on twitter hosted by Josh Boulos and I, with guest Star Sackstein. This chat was about student grading policies and homework, which is why we included Star. Ms. Sackstein is a unique teacher that believes students should not be graded. Sheb believes they should self evaluate their work to learn the ciriculum and to better themselves by realizing there mistakes. Star believes that if a student realizes his or her mistakes and takes the time to corrrect those mistakes he or she will get a better understanding of the circiulum than getting graded on it. The chat was based off of these questions: Q1: What is the impact of current grading policies that don’t offer redos? #techteamMA Q2: What is the value of allowing Ss to self or peer assess their progress towards the learning goals? #techteamMA Q3: If you have allowed Ss to grade themselves, have you found their assessments to be fair? #techteamMA Q4: Is assigning & grading HW meaningful? Should Ss grades be penalized for not doing HW? #techteamMA Q5: Could you explain the difference b/t formative & summative assessments? Which type has a greater impact on student learning? #techteamMA Q6: If you’ve implemented a “no grading policy” how have Ps other Ts and admins reacted? #techteamMa During this chat I learned many things through many new twitter friends that I gained from the chat. They gave me insight on how things are graded, why things are graded and why some things should not be graded. Also during the chat I met many technical people from around the country. Due to this being my first chat I had mixed emotions during the chat. At times I felt very exhilarated by how many tweets were coming in from the chat. At other times I was very nervous due to being pressed to think of correct answers to questions people were asking or statements people were saying, that would not make me or the Help Desk look bad. Even though I had mixed emotions on and over the chat I really enjoyed it. If you are a student and have the opportunity to run or moderate a twitter chat, I would highly recommend that you do take that opportunity! |

The verification program does have a sensible function. Twitter brims with bogus or parody accounts. So when customers are sifting via a summary of potential usernames, it helps to own signals that will help find the precise particular person they want to stick to.
